The training of Beauty Advisors in Selective Perfumery

In order to offer certified diploma training to anyone wishing to work in the Selective Perfumery sector, the French Federation of Selective Perfumery is working on the creation of a diploma specific to the profession of Selective Perfumery Beauty Consultant.

Created in 2018 by the FFPS, the Groupement Professionnel de Formation en Parfumerie Selective (GPFPS) operates the project. Jasmine Petiot, Vice-President and Treasurer of the FFPS-GPFPS, is in charge of this ambitious programme.

Certification

Creating a Professional Degree

Thanks to experimental sessions testing the CBPS professional certification, the GPFPS has been able to file an application for registration with the RNCP (Répertoire National des Certifications Professionnelles) in May 2019, with a view to securing and registering the Professional Degree for Selective Perfumery Beauty Advisors.

Next step: Quality Certification, mandatory from January 2021, based on an evaluation of the programme around 7 criteria and 32 indicators.

    The professions in Selective Perfumery

    FFPS-GPFPS-1

    The Sales associate

    He or she is responsible for welcoming customers, presenting and advising them on products (perfumes, cosmetics), meeting their expectations with personalised service.
    By listening carefully and asking questions, they identify their customer’s needs. Depending on the diagnosis, they recommend the appropriate products, arguing and promoting the future benefits.
    The create a high-quality environment by ensuring that the store is kept in order (storage, price display) and by contributing to its cleanliness.
    To succeed as a Sales Associate, the main qualities necessary are a smile, enthusiasm, good verbal skills and a well-groomed appearance. Training in beauty and cosmetics is strongly recommended (CAP, Bac Pro).

    The beauty advisor or aesthetician

    This is the person responsible for implementing techniques and products designed to care for and beautify the skin. This person is also a consultant and seller of perfumes and cosmetics.
    In compliance with the hygiene rules applicable to the services, the beauty advisor provides facial and body care, identifying each type of skin and implementing the most appropriate care techniques and cosmetics for each client. The beauty advisor is familiar with all types of equipment and devices and their appropriate use. The beauty advisor prepares and cleans the treatment rooms using hygiene procedures. To succeed in a position as a beautician, the main qualities required are a smile, enthusiasm, good verbal skills and a flawless appearance. Training in aesthetic cosmetics is essential (CAP, Bac Pro).

    The store manager

    The store managers’ duty is to optimise the economic performance of their store by attaining their commercial targets and implementing the levers needed to improve the profitability of the point of sale.
    As managers, these professionals lead and manage their team by mobilising it on individual and collective objectives; they see to it that the internal rules and procedures are enforced. They ensure that their staff are properly trained and informed. They arbitrate and settle conflicts within their team.
    They are exemplary in welcoming customers and handling sales. They settle any operational problems in the store and ensure that inventory levels are adequate. To succeed in a store manager position, the main qualities required are enthusiasm, the ability to delegate and oversee, leadership skills and an easy understanding of figures. A higher education degree is greatly preferred.
